Doug Crowder
As well as being a science fiction writer, DOUG CROWDER is also a Lawyer, Toastmaster, Painter and Atlantologist (one who studies or writes about Atlantis).
Lawyer
Doug has practiced law in Southern California since 1989, with a career has spanned many fields. Currently he works on bankruptcy and litigation.
When previously practicing criminal law, he obtained acquittals in 6 of 12 jury trials.
Toward the end of the “Great Dot-Com Bubble” of 2000, he was practicing corporate law, and was the lead attorney for a company whose website reached the top 50 most visited sites on the Internet.
toastmaster
Doug has been a member of Toastmasters International since 1999, and has reached the organization’s highest educational achievement, Distinguished Toastmaster.
His speeches have won numerous awards and ribbons. His informative white paper, WHY LAUGHTER IS NOT THE BEST MEDICINE, won an Area Level Humorous Speech contest. His dramatic exposition, GODZILLA & JULIET, won a Division Level Tall Tales Contest.
painter
Doug studied painting under renowned wildlife artist, Libby Berry, at the School of Living Oils, on Whidby Island, Washington. Libby re-discovered and taught some of the techniques of Leonardo DaVinci. One quote she shared from Leonardo changed Doug’s entire outlook on art, and inspired him to develop his current unique style of painting.
Which quote? We’ll tell you if you ask.
atlantologist
For at least the last two decades, Doug has studied legends and theories about ancient Atlantis, and has written stories premised on the Continent rising again at some future time.
He has also read the works on which the Atlantis legend is based – Plato’s two dialogues, Timaeus and Critias, written about 360 BC, which contain the first written mention of Atlantis. Reading these was no easy task, and is probably more than most Atlantologists have done.
Doug’s office is in Beautiful Downtown Burbank, and he lives in an undisclosed location between the mountains and the sea.
